All about the Heartwork Tattoo Festival

India's biggest tattoo festival was here in Delhi and boy, it was crazy! If you are a fan of body-ink art then this festival is a sure deal to follow. To see tattooed people all around, the buzzing of the needles and machines, loud Heavy metal playing in the background, tattoo artists sitting at their booths with their gloves on and heart out turning into a piece of art on people's skin.

The artwork on the back drop looked groovy. PC- ArtyManav
While there are a lot of male tattoo artists, a female one sometimes become a relief for those girls who only want to get tattooed by a female. PC- Bang On Target PR

Tattoos- They hold a lot of importance in people's lives not just today but also since ages. Our grandparents or great grandparents also had them. Their techniques were different - manual and gradual. Now, the artists have good quality tattoo machines, sterile inks and a lot of creativity. One such great example was this Heartwork Tattoo Festival that happened in Delhi in the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. We could see how this art of tattoo making and these tattoo festivals are so underrated. Such festivals attract people of their own tribe. Tattooed people with crazy piercings and crazy hairstyles, some with shaved heads, some with dread locks..

This artwork is more like a painting than a tattoo. Kudos to the artist. PC- Bang On Target PR

Tattoos are a rage these days. From scripts to watercolor effect, from realism to tribal, from new school to dot work. People getting their thighs, arms and even their face tattooed.

Roaming around in the festival, we read it somewhere, "Tattoos are already there inside our skins, they just come out on their time'. It's amazing to see that even after they are painful, they show the most beautiful and emotional sides of the people.  They are the mirrors of people's souls and their own imaginations. How they can tell the personality of the persons. Whether they are quotes, religious ones or even the faces of the people you love, tattoos never fail to disclose a little about you.

Apart from the tattooing and the artwork, there were plenty of tattoo supplies as well including inks and tattoo machines. A lot of times we only get to see the final product but these are the things that are needed to make it.

These colorful tattoo inks were a treat for the eye. PC- ArtyManav

We met a lot of people who showed up at the fest, had a let lot of fun appreciating the artwork glaring around the arena. Yet, for some it was tough luck to find their favourite artist doing a small patch tattoo. This meant that a bunch of such enthusiasts had to return without a souvenir on their skin. This was a one-off let down in an overall impressive fest.

Always! PC- ArtyManav

#inkspeaks PC- ArtyManav
Tattoo making contests and performances by famous artists playing electric sitar and fusion music acted as fillers. People shared jokes and stories behind their tattoos.
While they believed in the motto- ' We believe in the artist', as an ArtyManav we also think that it's the artists hard work that pays off and makes every single tattoo piece a work of art.

DIY Revamp your old walls this Summer

Bored of staring at the same old plain walls in your room? Are they failing to inspire you for your next hobby or next trip? Here are some ways by which you can give a makeover to the old walls in your room. Treat them as a huge blank canvas and get started this summer vacation !

First of all follow these simple steps
a) De-clutter the walls- Remove the excess waste and unwanted stuff from your walls.
b) Fix the broken wall area by using cement or POP. You can do it on your own or you can take help from anyone else.
c) Clean the dirt and the spider webs from the sides.

1) For the Bohemians
Mix Plaster of Paris, Fevicol and water to make a thick paste and start spreading it on your wall. Let it dry for a few minutes. Now, make any texture of your choice with the help of a fork, comb or even your fingers. You can even embed small things in this layer. Paint the whole wall using a sponge rather than a paint brush for quick work.

2) For the Hippie souls
Add tapestries or huge sheets available in markets like Pahadganj or Lajpat Nagar (Delhi). The ones with groovy art on them specially crafted to be seen in blue light are the best after a good high.

3) For the Traveller in you
Paste a huge world map on your wall specially the ones with a glossy finish so that you could easily mark off places on the map. Keep coloring the places you have visited or even write inspirational messages on it. Cheap and artistic!

4) For the Photographers
Get your best pictures framed or just paste them on a hard board and cut them off leaving an inch border. Put two big iron nails in the wall, tie a strong string across. Hang these pictures with the help of bamboo or wooden clothespin. Add yellow string light with the string for a better look. A photo tree is also a good option.

Gujarat witnesses a different kind of development. Thanks to Charlie Chaplin.

Canes in hand and bowler hats atop their heads, Charlie Chaplin impersonators tramped through the streets of a small port town in western India to celebrate the birthday of the Hollywood silent-film legend.

Image: Flickr.com
Chaplin has an odd resonance in this industrial town. Surrounded by salt flats bordering the Thar desert, Adipur's only claim to fame is the annual parade — now in its 40th year — to honor the filmmaker and comic actor known for his "Tramp" character.
More than 100 people participated in the parade that included brass bands, camel carts and open jeeps carrying life-sized cut-outs of Chaplin. Men and women dressed in crumpled black suits and carrying canes practiced the cheerful bowlegged walk of the Tramp as the parade made its way through the streets.
"Charlie Chaplin is our hero. Every year we celebrate his birthday with a parade," said Ashok Aswani, founder of Charlie Circle, a club that has been celebrating Chaplin's birthday since 1973.
Women dressed in colorful local costumes performed traditional Indian dances around the Chaplin impersonators as boom boxes loaded on small trucks belted out Hindi film songs.
The two-hour long parade winds down with club members performing skits mimicking Chaplin and the day's festivities end with a screening of one of his classic films. Chaplin's filmography includes "City Lights" and "Modern Times", both still considered among Hollywood's greatest films.
Chaplin, born in London in 1889 and one of the most significant figures in early Hollywood, has long had a following in film-loving India.
Aswani, a portly 64-year-old wearing a black bowler hat and sporting Chaplin's trademark toothbrush mustache, said Chaplin's films have a universal appeal.

"Every Chaplin film has a message for the common man. It's a message that has relevance even today," Aswani said.
Aswani said the first Chaplin film he watched was "The Gold Rush," back in 1966 and was hooked.
Aswani recalled that he was on his way to work when he saw a poster of Charlie Chaplin dressed as the Tramp at the local movie hall.
"I watched all three shows of the film that day. The next day I was sacked from my job for taking the day off without informing the office," Aswani said.
"I lost my job, but I discovered Charlie Chaplin, and I've stayed his fan ever since," he said.
Aswani, who practices traditional Indian medicine for a living, said that he often hands out DVDs of Chaplin films to his patients when they are feeling low.
"They always return feeling upbeat and wanting more Chaplin films," he said.

The Charlie Circle club has about 200 members, all living in and around Adipur, and the annual bash for Chaplin's birthday is the club's highlight.
Among the members is 79-year-old Arjunji Bhimji Karia, a retired bus driver, who counts himself among Chaplin's oldest fans.
"I saw my first Charlie Chaplin film when I was a young boy of 10 in Karachi, before my family moved from Pakistan to India," said Karia.
"I would mimic Charlie Chaplin to amuse my wife," said Karia, now a widower. "She would laugh out loud and that made me so happy."
ArtyManav says: Let us remind ourselves what Charlie Chaplin propagated. "I remain just one thing and thing only - and that is a clown. It places me on a far higher plane than any politician". It's miraculous how his ideas about humankind and art still seem relevant in today's times. Let's hope some day we get to breathe in the world that he envisioned.

Peace!

This Stunning Table Has A Seaside Inside Of It. Take A Dip Here.

New Marble and Resin Lagoon Coffee Tables
by Alexandre Chapelin

Designer Alexandre Chapelin of LA Table (previously) has been hard at work producing more tables as a part of his Lagoon series, tables that appear as aquamarine environments with secluded beaches. His recent addition is Lagoon 55, a coffee table version of his original. These tables are formed from resin and marble which is sliced in layers in order to create the appearance of depth within the table’s sea. The resin is then poured overtop, and has a different formula at each level to give the appearance of several shades of blue.

Chapelin cannot produce two identical tables, so no work will ever be the same. This is both because of the difficulty of the tables’ form, and Chapelin’s personal belief that each piece should be completely unique. You can see more of LA Table’s work on their
website.

15 Movies That Are Perfect To Celebrate Women's Day

The art that movies bring out to us is almost unmatched. You know... the villain, the hero and the damsel in distress? Well... no we're not talking about that rotten idea of films at all, but rather we're here to mention the multi-faceted actress... the intelligent heroine... or the femme fatal.

We as art loving humans have come far ahead to understand that the sole concept of 'The Hero' and 'The Villain' in the films we see is just absurd. The heroine is not just capable of holding the hero's hand but crush a man's skull if need be. They're not just about sharing a song sequence but also make new beginnings all by themselves.

Check this list of 15 movies that are perfect to catch a glimpse of these heroines...

15 movies that are perfect to celebrate Women's Day.

1. Kill Bill
A masterpiece by Q.Tarantino that depicts revenge, honor and hell lot of blood-splatter. Uma Thurman portrays the role of the Bride and well... the deadliest woman in the world.
2. Gravity
Starring Sandra Bullock, this movie makes you realize the horror of being left stranded in space. The exhilarating effects and an inspiring story telling makes us fall in love with Bullock's character.

3. Bandit Queen
Based on the real-life bandit Phoolan Devi, this gem by Shekhar Kapur shows the atrocities that she faced for being a woman, from a lower caste, born in North India's crude corners of UP.
4. Queen
Kangana Ranaut plays a typical West Delhi girl who upon being dumped just before her wedding does the unusual and takes a trip to Europe for her "Honeymoon" to find herself back.
5. Chak De India
Loosely based on a true story, Chak De addresses the miserable condition of Indian Women's Hockey Team in modern times. Kabir Khan, the coach, acts as an anchor to give the female players the respect they deserve.
6. NH 10
Set in the shady suburbs of NCR, Anushka's NH10 hurls the harsh realities of today's misogynistic and ignorant culture that challenges the very existence of women. Also features the veteran Deepti Naval.
7.  Mother India
Another Indian classic that talks about poverty, farmer suicide, and a mother's tremendous struggle to keep her family survive without forgetting her values & basic principles.
8. Boy Hood
Though the movie narrates a story of a boy's evolution, Patricia Arquette's performance of his mother fully deserved the Academy Award for best actress.
9. Aandhi
Suchitra Sen plays a politician's wife and gives a us a glimpse of what Indira Gandhi's equation with Feroze Gandhi, possibly was. Irony is, that Ms.Gandhi got this one banned!
10. Angry Indian Goddesses
The Dil Chahta Hai with female protagonists. Of course the difference is, that this one did not get as much commercial attention as it could have. Censor board banned much of it as well.
11. Thelma & Louise
Two women tread the countryside and while they try and breathe freedom, some people choose to barge in. A strong film about justice and how once Brad Pitt was well... not that popular.
12. Death Proof
Another kickass work by Tarantino, that talks about free-spirited american girls who love road trips, cars, guns and a firm fist fight with their stalker.
 13. Fire
A courageous film by Deepa Mehta, Fire speaks out loud about failed marriages, friendship and two women who wish to love each other.
14. Masaan
Orthodox India's painful realities have always splashed its dreadful colors on Indian Cinema. This movie set in Banaras is one such brilliant example.
15. Khubsoorat
Hrishikesh Mukherjee & Gulzar chose to give the 80's a kick start with this hilarious tale of a family's strange chemistry. Rekha & Dina Pathak's clash of opinions on 'rules to live' is a treat to watch.

Even if its not International Women's Day or Men's Day, let this list be an excuse to see how films can instill a sense of empowerment within you.

Peace & Love!
